Solidarity and Stability: An Update from Mapesu Private Game Reserve

The power of nature is a constant reminder of why we dedicate our lives to conservation. Recently, heavy rains and flooding have affected parts of the Kruger National Park and surrounding communities. As neighbours in this vast and beautiful landscape, the team at Mapesu Private Game Reserve extends our thoughts and sincere solidarity with the staff, conservation partners, and families affected by these conditions.
The spirit of resilience in the South African wilderness is unmatched, and we stand in support of our colleagues as they work tirelessly to manage the impact of the elements.

Operational Update for Our Guests

During periods of regional weather shifts, we understand that travellers may feel uncertain about their upcoming plans. We would like to provide a clear and reassuring update on our operations.
Mapesu Private Game Reserve remains fully operational and unaffected by the recent flooding.
Our infrastructure, including all internal and external access roads, remains fully intact. All scheduled arrivals, departures, and daily activities, including our signature game drives and conservation experiences, are proceeding as normal. For those currently navigating travel disruptions in the northern regions, Mapesu offers a stable and accessible sanctuary just two hours from the Pafuri Gate and directly opposite the iconic Mapungubwe National Park.

A Sanctuary for Wildlife and Travellers

While we remain mindful of our neighbours, we invite guests to find peace of mind in the Limpopo Valley. Mapesu continues to serve as a vital stronghold for biodiversity. As a Big 5 reserve, our mission remains focused on protecting some of Africa’s most vulnerable species.
Visitors can still join our Endangered Wildlife Monitoring sessions, where our specialist guides track and observe our resident cheetah and wild dog populations. These experiences offer a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the science of conservation, providing a sense of purpose and connection that is particularly resonant during times of environmental change.
Beyond the wildlife, the cultural landscape remains a pillar of the Mapesu experience. We are proud to be near the Kaoxa Rock Art Site, one of only two public rock art sites in South Africa.
This ancient site offers a profound perspective on the enduring history of this land, a history that has weathered many seasons.
